Organise yourself to be doing something else or to be somewhere else instead. As you persist, you will find the habit fades and your self-discipline strengthens. As the desire weakens, you can slowly give yourself more freedom in this regard. If you fall off the wagon, you might have to consider whether it is more important for you to break the habit, or engage in the activity. Week 9 The power of beauty Make your environment beautiful. We are programmed to respond to beauty. It lifts our spirits and is very motivating.

So, it is normal to be nervous about new social situations. We are facing the possibility of rejection. It is also normal that our first few moments are spent comparing ourselves with the rest of the group. We are making a split second assessment about whether we fit in. Am I too old or young? Too dumb or smart? Wearing the right clothes? Accept that a certain amount of anxiety is inevitable. Be brave. Everyone else is engaged in the same process. Rather than worrying about being accepted, concentrate on assuring others that you accept them.

Week 39 When people don’t care It is inevitable you will meet people that you will find impossible to get through to. It is possible that their minds work in a completely different way from yours. Maybe they have completely different values. Or perhaps they simply don’t care about how they affect your life. Some examples of these kinds of people are racists, sexists, narcissists, bullies and con-people. There is no point in holding on to the idea that everyone shares your values and will naturally behave as you do.
